Flood Debris Disposal at the Hartford Transfer Station The Greater Upper Valley Solid Waste Management District and the Town of Hartford is no longer offering disposal of flood debris at no charge to GUV and Hartford residents.
Free Electronics Recycling Is Here! The Vermont Product Stewardship electronics recycling program started on July 1, 2011. The GUVSWD is collecting electronics from covered entities at our office and at special events (still to be scheduled). Covered entities include residents of Vermont, non-profits incorporated in Vermont, School Districts, and Vermont businesses employing fewer than 10 people. Covered devices include computers, computer monitors, cathode ray tubes, printers, televisions, and computer peripherals. Most other electronic devices are now banned from landfill disposal and will be accepted as well, including PDA's, MP3 players, game consoles, fax machines, wireless phones, telephones, VCr's and DVD players, and answering machines. All of the above will be accepted at no charge from covered entities at our office Monday - Friday from 8:30 'til 4:00. A fee will still be charged for electronics from non-covered entities, please call with any questions.
Home Composters are (still) here! The pre-ordered Earth Machine home composters, kitchen collection pails, and rain barrels are mostly picked up! We also have a small stock of Soil Saver Composters available at the office for $45 each. Pick them up at our office Monday - Friday from 8:30 'til 4:00.
The Next HHW collection will be June 2, 2012 The Spring household hazardous waste collection will be Saturday, June 2 from 9:00 until Noon at the Hartford Transfer Station on Route 5 South. To dispose of hazardous waste before this date, contact the GUVSWD for options. The Hartford Community Center for Recycling and Waste management will take oil based paints for $4.50 per gallon by appointment - contact Bob Vahey at 295-5740.
Electronics Recycling news! More important news items on electronics recycling: The Vermont Legislature has passed a Product Stewardship Electronics recycling bill. This is an exciting and important bill that will change the way electronics are collected in Vermont. There are several important parts to the bill - some of the highlights are: - Electronics manufactures needed to register with the State by July 1, 2010 - All electronic devices are landfill banned as of January, 2011 - A system to recycle computers, monitors, televisions, and CRTs at no charge to consumers will be in place by July, 2011. Meanwhile, we will continue our regular electronics recycling programs at the same pricing until the new system is in place in 2011. Sony has teamed up with our electronics recycler to offer free recycling for all Sony brand televisions. Bring your Sony TV to our office or special events for free recycling! New Hampshire has updated their landfill ban on electronics to add VCR's, DVD players, and computer CPU's to the ban. Most of the trash from GUVSWD towns currently goes to Lebanon, NH so we need to keep these items out of the trash. We recycle all items with a cord at our office and recycling events. See the new VT electronic waste website at www.anr.state.vt.us/dec/e-waste/ for more details.
Recycling Bins Are back in Stock 14 gallon bins are for sale at $7 each.
