Solid waste planners use a hierarchy of waste management options endorsed by the federal government and the state of Vermont to guide their policy decisions--you've probably heard the slogan: "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!". As you can see, REUSE is even more important than recycling. The District keeps the following list of reuse opportunities in our area to encourage the donation and reuse of materials. If you know of a store or event that sells used goods that is not on this list, Contact Us. If you have clothing, books, toys, or any other easily reusable items you no longer want, please contact any of the places listed below to see if you can donate your items.

Another great way to reduce waste and reuse items is to repair. See our Repair page.

Schools and businesses might also want to check out material exchanges. There is more information on materials exchanges at the bottom of this page.

INDEX

A Thrifty Yankee Tradition

"FREE" piles and yard sales are a great way to get things reused. This can range from the no-hassle system of putting stuff by the side of the road with a sign that says "free," and watching it disappear fast, to getting together with neighbors to advertise a joint yard sale in the newspaper.

Please take into consideration the safety issues of people stopping and gawking on a busy road.
