Ordinance SummaryCONCISE SUMMARY OF WASTE MANAGEMENT ORDINANCE On November 10, 1994 the Greater Upper Valley Solid Waste Management District Board of Supervisors adopted a Solid Waste Management Ordinance in conformance with the District's Charter and the State Solid Waste Management Act of 1987. The purpose of the ordinance is to promote the health, safety and welfare of district residents, to provide for the efficient, economical and environmentally sound management of solid waste and to regulate the separation, collection, transportation and disposal of solid waste and recyclables within the district. A petition for a vote on the question of disapproving an ordinance, at a special meeting duly warned for the purpose, shall be signed by not less than 5% of the qualified voters of the municipality, and presented to the legislative body or the clerk of the municipality within 45 days following the date of adoption of the ordinance.
