Recycling Computers and Electronics

Computer: How to get rid of old computers and electronics
  • News Flash! Vermont has a new producer responsibility electronics recycling bill! This means that the cost of recycling computers, monitors, televisions, and CRT's is paid by the manufacturers starting in July of 2011. Contact us for more details!

    Why Recycle Electronics?
    • Electronics contain metals, plastic, and a few toxics that should be reclaimed rather than put in the landfill.
    • Recycling your computer or TV is one of the things you can do to help reduce the need for raw materials, and slow mining and drilling activity.
    • Reuse creates 100 times more jobs per ton than landfilling electronics as trash, and recycling creates 10 times more jobs per ton.
    • Sometimes electronics can be reused for parts or resold to folks who don't need the latest and greatest.
    Buying a Computer?

    EPEAT
helps you choose an environmentally preferable one.

What happens to the electronics that are recycled through GUVSWD?

    • Some will be refurbished and sold through charitable thrift stores.
    • Some parts will be removed to be reused.
    • The rest will be broken down into each different constituent (black plastic, white plastic, copper, glass, leaded glass, wire, circuit boards for, precious metals, etc.) and recycled.
    • Our recycler, Good Point Recycling is in the business to do the right thing. They work very hard to keep recycling costs low while maintaining very high standards for the environmental and social implications of what they do.
